Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Mathematics of Computing

The Department of Mathematics is seeking a mathematician specialized in Mathematics of Computing. The required minimum qualification of the successful candidate is a doctorate in mathematics or a related field. The Department seeks exceptional candidates with (1) a record of high quality research and scholarship, (2) excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, (3) leadership experience and (4) a demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity. The successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success.

Department of Mathematics: The Department of Mathematics has 21 tenured or tenure-track faculty, and 30 instructors. The Department currently has experts in the areas of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematics education. It offers three Bachelor of Science degrees: the B.S. degree in General Mathematics Studies, the B.S. degree in Mathematics, and the B.S. degree in Mathematics of Data and Computing offered as a joint degree with the Department of Computer Science. The Department also offers three Master of Science degrees: M.S. in Applied Mathematics–Industrial Mathematics, M.S. in Mathematics, and M.S. in Mathematics Education. A successful candidate will help shape the future of the Department by contributing to the creation of a new Ph.D. program. Joint appointments with other academic units that already have Ph.D. programs are possible and encouraged.

Required qualifications:

  • At least one year of postdoctoral experience either in research or teaching.

  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Potential to mentor students in research projects.
  • Potential to collaborate with researchers within and outside the department.
