ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Applied Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Sciences at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for one tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in Fall 2017.

With a student body of over 30,000 students, UTSA is the second largest component of The University of Texas System and is an emerging institution expanding to become a tier one university. San Antonio, a vibrant city of well over a million people, has experienced dynamic economic growth over the past decade. Opportunities for interdisciplinary interactions and collaborations exist not only within other departments and colleges at UTSA, but also with the UT Health Science Center, Southwest Research Institute, local military bases, and numerous companies including USAA, Boeing, and Rackspace.

Responsibilities include conducting an active research program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, seeking external grant funding, serving on thesis committees, and providing service to the department and university. The successful candidate will assist the department in strengthening and finalizing an evolving proposal for a Ph.D. degree focused on applied mathematics.

Required Qualifications: (1) a doctorate degree in mathematics with a concentration in applied mathematics by the time of appointment; (2) strong research record in applied mathematics; and (3) evidence for excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: (1) Outstanding research achievements in an area of applied mathematics including PDEs, Computational mathematics and Mathematical Modeling, Biomathematics, with experience in seeking and obtaining extramural funding; (2) at least 2 years of postdoctoral work; and (3) ability to collaborate with researchers within and outside the department.
